CranioSacral
Therapy was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician
John. E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from
1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served
as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating
and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system
called the ‘craniosacral system’ – comprised
of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and
protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, practitioners
release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve
the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body’s natural healing processes,
craniosacral therapy is increasingly used as a preventative
health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease,
and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated
with pain and dysfunction, including:
-
Migraine Headaches
- Chronic
Neck and Back Pain
- Motor
- Coordination Impairments
- Colic
- Autism
- Central
Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopaedic
Problems
- Traumatic
Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Infantile
Disorders
- Learning
Disabilities
- Chronic

- Emotional
Difficulties
- Stress
and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia
and other Connective - Tissue Disorders
- Temperomandibular
Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular
or Immune Disorders
- Post

- Post
- Surgical Dysfunction
Training

techniques with the best conventional and well-proven healthcare
methods. Founded in 1985 by Dr John E Upledger, the Institute
is known throughout the world for its excellent post-graduate
educational programmes in a variety of related innovative
modalities.

CranioSacral Therapy II
Course
Length : 4 days
Advanced
preparation : Successful completion of CranioSacral Therapy
I workshop followed by ample independent study time for skill
development and practice. Required reading: chapters 7 onwards
of Dr John Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy and the chapter
on Temporomandibular joint in CranioSacral Therapy II, Beyond
the Dura.
Programme
Highlights
-
Cranial dysfunctions
- Hard
palate, the mandible, and temporomandibular joint dysfunctions.
- Whole
body evaluation
- Energy
cysts
- Regional
tissue release
- SomatoEmotional
Release®
The
course begins with the study of cranial base dysfunctions
as perceived, diagnosed and treated by Dr William Sutherland,
the father of cranial osteopathy. In this course students
learn how to integrate Sutherland’s techniques for identifying
and evaluating lesions into our “10-step protocol”
and how to apply individual correction when needed.
Evaluation
and treatment of the hard palate, the mandible and temporomandibular
joint are presented and practiced to complete the exploration
of the masticatory system.
You
can expect to take away with you skills to localize and correct
motion distortions of the spheno-palatino-vomero-maxilary
complex and restrictions of the teeth. You should be able
to evaluate general vitality, motivation, emotional status
and biochemical dysfunction using the CranioSacral rhythm.
You will have had the opportunity to observe and/or participate
in the process of SomatoEmotional Release®.

SomatoEmotional Release I
Course
Length : 4 days
Advanced
preparation : Successful completion of CranioSacral Therapy
II workshop. You should review Dr John Upledger’s textbook
CranioSacral Therapy II, Beyond the Dura and read SomatoEmotional
Release and Beyond.
Programme
Highlights
-
Techniques for releasing the vocal apparatus - to aid expression
and release of suppressed emotion
- Introduction
to the idea and use of therapeutic imagery
- Integration
of imagery and dialogue techniques with the process of SomatoEmotional
Release®
- Introduction
to vector/axis integration and alignment
SomatoEmotional
Release® is a therapeutic process that helps rid the mind
and body of residual effects of past trauma and associated
negative emotional experiences, thereby supplementing the
practice of CranioSacral Therapy and advancing and expanding
its usefulness.
You
will gain specific techniques for energy cyst and SomatoEmotional
Release®. Such releases are often necessary in order to
enable many people to let go of the deepest causes of pain
and illness. They enable the application of CranioSacral Therapy
to be utilized by the sufferer at the deeper levels. By achieving
improved listening and comprehension skills you will have
increased understanding of verbal and non-verbal signals.
This will be a means to encourage clients/patients to work
co-operatively with you in improving health.

SomatoEmotional Release II
Course
Length : 4 days
Advanced
preparation : Successful completion of SomatoEmotional Release®
I workshop. You should review SomatoEmotional Release and
Beyond by Dr John Upledger and read Getting to Yes by Roger
Fisher and William Ury. Dr Upledger recommends you also read
The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins, and The Triumph of the
Embryo by Lewis Wolpert.
Programme
Highlights
- The
history, key concepts and therapeutic process.
- Review
of throat and hard palate techniques for releasing vocal
apparatus.
- Methods
for inviting a solicited image, maintaining an unsolicited
image and discovering an image’s purpose.
- Exercises
in active imagination, archetypes, self awareness and dialogue
and facilitated imagery.
In
this workshop SomatoEmotional Release® (SER) techniques
are integrated with various creative and dialoguing methods.
The emphasis is on wholeness and self healing. The goal is
a comfortable holistic mind-body approach to the resolution
of problems and obstacles related to patient/client progress
and growth.
The
class begins with a review of the techniques for releasing
the throat and hard palate taught in CranioSacral Therapy
(CST) II. This technique is used to encourage expression and
release of suppressed emotion, followed by an introduction
to Psychosynthesis, Gestalt and Jungian psychology.
By blending concepts from three schools of psychology with
SER and CST, the therapist learns specific techniques to help
their patients increase awareness of the ‘inner self’.
Class exercises are designed to strengthen the relationship
between the conscious and the unconscious mind in order to
increase self awareness.
The
SomatoEmotional Release® process requires extreme sensitivity
on the part of the therapist and a positive attitude and trust
from the patient. The SER II course gives you a greater insight
into your patient’s issues and specific techniques to
fine tune your dialoguing skills.

This
course offers an extraordinary experience for the serious
CranioSacral therapy practitioner. During five intense days
you participate in an intimate ten - student group with a
three-member staff team of therapists very experienced in
the use of advanced skills to facilitate health improvement.
A senior Upledger Institute instructor leads the workshop
with assistants. The format is of two five-student groups.
Following discussion each morning, in the afternoons each
participant is treated by the other four in their group. The
supervisory team give guidance and support when it seems indicated.
Advanced II CranioSacral
Therapy
Course
